Draper Out of French Open in Fresh Injury Blow
On Wednesday, British tennis player Jack Draper announced he will miss the French Open at Roland Garros, withdrawing from the entire clay court season due to an aggravated knee tendon injury.
The injury occurred during a first-round match against Tomas Etcheverry at the Barcelona Open earlier this month, compounding Draper's struggles following a long-term arm injury that sidelined him for eight months last year.
Since returning in February, Draper managed just nine matches across five events; writing on Instagram, he said, "My knee is on the mend and I've started back hitting balls but unfortunately I have been advised not to play Roland Garros."
Draper targets a return for the grass-court tournament in Stuttgart beginning June 8, though missing those events could jeopardize his participation at Wimbledon as he works to regain ranking and form.
The news compounds a difficult season for British tennis, with Emma Raducanu, Sonay Kartal, Fran Jones, and Jacob Fearnley also sidelined by fitness issues, leaving Cameron Norrie and Katie Boulter as primary active singles competitors.
Jack Draper will miss Roland-Garros because of a knee injury. The Britishman, now 28th in the world, returned to the competition in February after six months of absence.
