CM Omar Abdullah Dedicates Asia’s Longest Ski Drag Lift in Gulmarg
The 726-meter ski drag lift and revolving hall aim to boost Gulmarg’s winter tourism, which hosted over 768,000 visitors last year, officials said.
- On Saturday , Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah inaugurated Asia's longest ski drag lift and a rotating conference hall at Kongdori, Gulmarg, sited at 4,390 metres.
- To boost winter tourism, the projects were presented as a way to raise Gulmarg to international standards after it hosted over 7.68 lakh visitors last year and the fourth Khelo India Winter Games venue.
- Measuring 726 metres, the new ski drag lift cost �3.65 crore, while the revolving conference hall at Apharwat cost �0.86 crore; both projects were executed by Gulmarg Development Authority and JKCCC.
- Abdullah inaugurated the Integrated Skiing Training & Adventure Tourism Centre and launched integrated ski training courses, dedicating tourism projects worth over �17 crore at Gulmarg and adjoining areas.
- Beyond lifts and halls, Abdullah said the vision is to make Gulmarg a global hub for winter sports while ensuring conservation of its ecology, including fencing of the Gulmarg Golf Course and conservation of a water body .
