In Côte d'Ivoire, the party of former President Laurent Gbagbo announces that 18 of its activists recently arrested by the security forces were released on the night of Wednesday to Thursday. Since the beginning of August, the PPA-CI claims to be the victim of a wave of arrests.
The former President and Ivorian opponent had stated on 16 September that some 30 of his members had been arrested or "abducted" since 1 August. The prosecutor of the Republic Oumar Braman Koné had told him that there were "no kidnappings, kidnappings or enforced disappearances" in the country.
Eighteen activists of the Parti des peuples Afriques-Côte d'Ivoire (PPA-CI), arrested in recent weeks on charges of public order disturbances, were released after several days of detention.
