Israel revokes diplomatic status of Dutch diplomats in Ramallah
The diplomats will lose immunities and privileges after seven days as Israel cites the Dutch ban on settlement goods.
- On Sunday, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar announced that Israel revoked the credentials of Dutch diplomats in Ramallah, requiring them to return Israeli-issued documentation within seven days.
- The revocation follows the Netherlands' enforcement of a national ban on goods from Israeli settlements on September 22, with the Dutch government citing an "international legal obligation" regarding the settlements' status.
- Israel's Ministry of Economy and Industry plans to provide up to 200,000 shekels to companies in affected settlements and help them find "alternative markets" including the Philippines, India, the United Arab Emirates, Chile, and Argentina.
- If the Netherlands wishes to continue representing its interests with the Palestinians, it may do so from Palestinian Authority territory, Sa'ar stated; Dutch Politician Geert Wilders supported the move, saying "Well done Gideon Sa'ar."
- Previously, Israel removed the Dutch mission from the international support center for Gaza operating out of Kiryat Gat, highlighting the complex requirement for diplomats accredited to the Palestinian Authority to operate from Israel.
