Palestinian Killed as West Bank Olive Harvest Turns Violent
- On Thursday, Israeli militant settlers shot two Palestinians in the village of Yasuf in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, killing one and injuring the other, according to Palestinian officials.
- Village council head Jumaa Abdel Fattah said the assailants came from a settler outpost built near Yasuf two months ago, with settlers attacking the village continuously since its establishment.
- Violence has surged in the West Bank, where military and settler actions have killed more than 80 Palestinians since the beginning of 2026, according to UN data.
- Rights groups describe the increasing settler presence as a campaign to seize Palestinian land, while most countries regard these settlements as illegal under international law governing military occupations.
- Since capturing the West Bank in 1967, Israel has maintained military occupation under Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who has overseen a massive expansion of Jewish outposts despite international opposition.
