Israel kills four Hamas members in Gaza Strip
Israeli airstrikes killed at least four Palestinians in the Gaza Strip on Wednesday, local health officials said, including Mohammad Abu Elwan, whom Israel described as a senior Hamas finance official.
Citing alleged threats, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defence Minister Israel Katz stated the military acted because Hamas members were allegedly preparing attacks and rebuilding strength in violation of the ceasefire.
Medics reported that Osama Abu Khater and one colleague were killed when an Israeli airstrike hit their vehicle in Khan Younis, in the south of the enclave. The military reported a total of four targeted killings.
At least 1,400 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since the US-brokered ceasefire took effect, according to health officials. On Friday, the Israeli military reported two Israeli soldiers were killed in the Gaza Strip.
Negotiators have failed to agree on terms for Hamas to disarm and Israel to withdraw troops under a US-backed peace plan, which requires both sides to halt hostilities and permits Israeli forces to act only in self-defense.
A Hamas commander, who also held two German-Israeli brothers, was killed by Israel's army, and a man who was involved in the deportation of Israel's Noa Argamani from the Nova Music Festival was killed.
The Israeli army has claimed to have killed two Hamas members in two separate attacks on the Gaza Strip.
