Staten Island Activist Part of Gaza Flotilla Detained by Israel, Says Twin Sister

The flotilla of about 40 vessels carrying symbolic humanitarian aid was stopped by Israeli forces, detaining hundreds to enforce the 18-year naval blockade of Gaza.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- St. George Resident Omnia Hegazy knew on Aug. 25, when her twin sister and bandmate, Leila, left to become part of the Global Sumud Flotilla, there were risks involved.
