The return of Thai hostage Sudthisak Rinthalak's remains marks near completion of a US-brokered ceasefire with 20 living and 27 deceased hostages returned, officials said.
- On Dec 4, Israel announced the remains of Thai agricultural worker Sudthisak Rinthalak were identified, and the Prime Minister's Office conveyed condolences to his family and other fallen hostages.
- He was 42 and worked in agriculture when abducted from Kibbutz Be'eri during the Oct. 7 attack, according to Israeli sources, and was murdered that day.
- The Red Cross delivered remains found by Palestinian Islamic Jihad in northern Gaza to Israeli forces, and Gal Hirsch notified Rinthalak's family about repatriation with the Thai Embassy.
- With Rinthalak recovered, only one fallen hostage remains in Gaza: Police Staff Sergeant Ran Gvili, and the Government of Israel urged Hamas to return all deceased hostages.
- Since the fragile truce began, Hamas has returned all 20 living hostages and 27 bodies in exchange for around 2,000 Palestinian detainees, while the Gaza Health Ministry reports only a fraction of 330 remains have been identified due to limited DNA kits.
