Israel aims to clear Hezbollah from southern Lebanon with over twice the troops deployed since March 1, amid nearly 1,000 Lebanese deaths reported by authorities.
- A senior Israeli commander said on Wednesday Israel has more than doubled troops along the Lebanese border since March 1 and is searching homes in evacuated southern Lebanese villages.
- Earlier this month, Hezbollah joined the wider war on March 2, firing rockets toward Israel, while hundreds of thousands of Lebanese civilians fled after evacuations south of the Litani River.
- Near Metula, Reuters reporters saw fortifications filled with tanks and personnel carriers while Israeli Apache helicopters and jets made near-constant sorties on Tuesday and Wednesday; smoke rose from Khiyam on Wednesday, with many buildings reduced to rubble.
- Lebanese authorities say at least 968 people have been killed since the start of Israel's attacks, and the Israeli military says two Israeli soldiers have died in southern Lebanon.
