Report: Islanders Selling Franchise Stake at $3B Valuation
The deal would make the Islanders one of the NHL’s most valuable teams, with one investor set to own up to 10%, Sportico reported.
On Monday, Sportico reported the New York Islanders reached an agreement to sell roughly 15% of the franchise to a handful of investors based on a $3 billion valuation.
Primary owners Scott Malkin and Jon Ledecky acquired the Islanders for $485 million 12 years ago; the franchise value has since grown to $3 billion.
Accordion CEO Nick Leopard leads the investor group purchasing the 15% stake, stating, "I've spent my career building winning organizations." Leopard founded the AI-focused financial consulting firm 17 years ago.
Recent additions to the Islanders ownership group include venture capitalist David Shuman, who joined last month, and German financier Oliver Haarmann, who joined in 2023.
While awaiting NHL approval, the Islanders open their new season today, Wednesday, in Toronto, as the franchise value continues its significant upward trajectory.
