Islam Makhachev Shuts Down Joe Rogan's Retirement Theory, Reveals Plan to Set Unbreakable UFC Record
Makhachev said he plans to keep fighting and wants to extend his 16-fight UFC win streak, shutting down Joe Rogan’s retirement theory.
UFC welterweight champion Islam Makhachev defends his title against Ian Machado Garry at UFC 330 this Saturday in Philadelphia, rejecting retirement speculation from commentator Joe Rogan.
Riding a 16-fight win streak, Makhachev is tied with Anderson Silva for the most consecutive UFC victories and aims to extend the record to 20 wins.
At 34 years old, Makhachev stated his career depends on health rather than age, saying, "It's not about numbers, about age. It's about your health, how you feel."
When he eventually concludes his career, Makhachev plans to retire in Russia, specifically expressing a desire to "put the gloves down in Moscow" in front of his home crowd.
While the fighter dreams of a Moscow finale, the UFC has not held an event in Russia since November 2019 and currently has no immediate plans to return.
