Iran and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have signed a joint statement by the BRICS countries calling for restraint in the war in the Middle East. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on X that a joint statement was unanimously adopted on the first day of the annual summit in New Delhi.
The group was "deeply concerned about the escalation of tensions in the Middle East/West Asia," it said in a statement.
The first day of the BRICS Summit concluded with discussions on the war in the Middle East, the security of Gaza and the Strait of Hormuz, as well as the agreement between Iran and the UAE on a joint statement and Xi Jinping's visit to India for the first time in seven years.
