Iran: Trump remarks on Strait of Hormuz ‘inconsistent with reality’
Iran says any deal would keep the Strait of Hormuz under its control as talks continue over sanctions relief and nuclear terms.
On Sunday, President Donald Trump announced a peace deal with Iran is "largely negotiated," but Iranian media immediately disputed the claim as "far from reality," asserting Tehran would retain control of the Strait of Hormuz.
In February, the United States and Israel launched strikes on Iran, prompting Tehran to shut the Strait of Hormuz and triggering a US naval blockade of Iranian ports beginning April 13.
Pakistan-Led mediation proposed a three-stage framework: formally ending the war, resolving the Strait crisis, and launching a 30-day window for negotiations on Iran's nuclear program and sanctions relief.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told Trump on Saturday that any deal must dismantle Iran's nuclear threat, while Trump stated Sunday he instructed representatives not to rush, noting "time is on our side."
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei stated Tehran insists on retaining control of the Strait of Hormuz, while US Secretary of State Marco Rubio reiterated Washington's demand that Iran hand over enriched uranium.
