Iran’s Parliament Condemns ‘Illegal’ Sanctions over Its Nuclear Programme
Iran condemned the UN sanctions reimposed via snapback, calling them illegal and warning of a firm response amid a record low rial against the US dollar, sources said.
- On Sunday, the United Nations Security Council reinstated nuclear-related sanctions on Iran , taking effect at 3:30 am in Tehran.
- Last month, Britain, France and Germany invoked the JCPOA snapback to restore sanctions after Omani-brokered talks collapsed in June and Israeli and US strikes derailed negotiations.
- On the black market the rial traded at around 1.12 million per dollar as Iranians warned renewed sanctions will worsen the economy, raising prices and lowering living standards, said Dariush.
- Diplomatic tensions rose as Iran recalled envoys to Britain, France and Germany on Saturday and Russia said it would not enforce the sanctions.
- The European Union said the return of sanctions must not end diplomacy and will implement previously lifted measures, while Western leaders urged dialogue and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio called for direct talks.
