Iran says it will escalate if US does not honour deal within weeks
A senior official said Tehran will take necessary military action if Washington fails to meet the deal's terms within weeks, Reuters reported.
- On Monday, a senior Iranian official told Reuters that Tehran has shifted to a "fully offensive" strategy, setting a deadline of a few weeks for the United States to fully implement the June memorandum of understanding or face military action.
- The June memorandum set a 60-day timeframe for Washington and Tehran to reach agreement on nuclear issues but collapsed after President Donald Trump declared it "over" on July 7 amid disputes over Strait of Hormuz control.
- Kpler ship-tracking data shows only five commodity vessels transited Hormuz on Saturday and none on Sunday, compared with more than 130 pre-war daily transits, as the U.S. naval blockade has sharply curtailed Iran's oil exports.
- Trump warned Americans on Friday to prepare for sustained high fuel prices while stating he would soon declare the Hormuz Strait a U.S. territory, as an Israeli official warned Iran might disrupt global energy supplies before November midterm elections.
- Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that normal shipping through Hormuz will not resume until the U.S. returns to the deal, while Trump posted on Truth Social that preventing Iranian nuclear weapons remains his paramount objective.
