Iran says it struck US air base in Jordan, US military ends five hours of attacks
Iran said the attack was retaliation as U.S. forces completed a five-hour strike wave against military targets across the country, officials said.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps targeted a U.S. air base in Jordan with ballistic missiles and drones, claiming the attack set fire to several fuel and ammunition depots.
Jordan's military intercepted and shot down four of the incoming Iranian missiles, reporting no immediate casualties or damage, and previously disputed Iran's claims of successful strikes on its base.
Alongside the strike, the IRGC issued a statement to the Jordanian public calling for the dismantling of U.S. military bases in the country while assuring them of Iran's goodwill.
The Iranian attack followed a five-hour wave of U.S. airstrikes by Central Command targeting Iranian coastal defenses, missile and drone sites, and maritime capabilities.
This intense U.S. operation marked the third consecutive night of American military strikes against Iranian targets ordered by President Donald Trump.
As the US attacks continued, the armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran also launched a new wave of missile and drone operations against US military bases and infrastructure in the region.
