Iran denies involvement in suspected plot targeting a US-operated air base in England
Police said suspected explosives and three vans were found near the base as investigators examined possible links to Iran, Russia or militant groups.
Five British men were arrested on Sunday near RAF Fairford on suspicion of preparing a terror attack after police received reports of suspicious vehicles and recovered suspected explosives.
RAF Fairford, located 100 miles west of London, serves as a deployment site for American B-1 and B-52 bombers during the Iran conflict, making it a strategic target that Tehran has previously designated as a legitimate objective.
President Donald Trump said authorities had the suspects "under view" for some time through U.S.-British cooperation, while British Defense Secretary Wes Streeting called it "a proud moment" for police and intelligence services.
Iran's London embassy "categorically rejects and strongly condemns" the unfounded speculation linking Tehran to the plot, while investigators hold the five suspects under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act for up to 14 days.
National security cases involving hostile states increased 50% in the six months to December 2025, and officials continue investigating potential links to Russia or non-state militant groups regarding the Fairford incident.
