Apple Unveils iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max With Variable-Aperture Camera, A20 Pro Chip
Apple says the Pro models add a variable aperture, new Photographic Styles controls and up to 40% better cooling.
- Apple announced the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max, priced at $1,199 and $1,299 respectively. Preorders begin Sept. 12, with general availability on Sept. 18.
- The Dynamic Island is almost half as small as previous versions. Apple introduced new color options including Burgundy and The Glacier, alongside a return to Deep Black.
- Powered by The A20 Pro silicon, both models feature a rearchitected vapor chamber providing up to 40% better cooling than the Pros. This engineering supports higher sustained performance.
- Pro Controls allow users to adjust shutter speed and aperture before shooting. A Mechanical Variable Aperture creates a "starburst" effect, while updated Photographic Styles include a new "textures" option.
- These models cost $100 more than last year, reflecting premium internal upgrades. Apple also launched the Duo at the Steve Jobs Theater event in CUPERTINO.
