Police Seize More than Four Tonnes of Illegal Meat and Arrest Four Men
Officers removed more than 4 tonnes of meat after uncovering an unapproved plant, and investigators have begun a criminal probe.
Dudley Council and the National Food Crime Unit raided an unapproved meat cutting plant in Dudley, arresting four men and seizing approximately four tonnes of illegal meat during the joint operation.
Authorities removed the products amid fears of "diseases and contaminants" because the meat bypassed required UK safety and hygiene checks, posing potential health risks to consumers.
West Midlands Police, HMRC, and the Home Office supported the operation, which Will Simpson, Regional Intelligence Officer at the NFCU, said aimed "to identify those suspected of criminal activity."
The NFCU and the Food Standards Agency issued a "Food Alert for Action" enforcement trigger, while officers launched a criminal investigation examining recovered product details and paperwork.
Councillor Patrick Harley, leader of Dudley Council, said the operation "demonstrates the value of strong partnership working in protecting residents and maintaining confidence in the food supply chain.
