1 Person Dead After Police-Involved Shooting in North York, SIU Investigating
Ontario’s police watchdog has been notified after a driver died when an officer fired during a roadside encounter, Toronto police said.
A suspect died after a police officer fired their gun during an altercation in Toronto's North York on Saturday, Aug 22.
Officers responded shortly before 1:30 p.m. to reports of a damaged vehicle driving erratically near Wilson and King High, where the driver attempted to flee the scene following a collision.
During the interaction, an officer discharged their firearm, police said; the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene with no injuries to responding officers.
The Special Investigations Unit, Ontario's police watchdog, has been notified of the fatal incident to investigate circumstances involving police and civilian death.
