Brazil’s government and exporters of meat, poultry, eggs, honey and other animal products were scrambling Thursday after a European Union deadline passed for suspending imports over concerns about the use of antibiotics and antimicrobial drugs in livestock.
Since 3 September, Brazilian beef and poultry can no longer enter the European Union. A health ban is a first test for the trade agreement with Mercosur, which has been provisionally applied since May.
