The acceleration of inflation in Portugal is mainly due to fuel prices. In August, the rate of energy goods rose to 12.2%, which compares with 8.7% in the previous month.
"The acceleration of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) is almost entirely explained by the increase in the price of fuels," says the INE. "The change in the index for energy products increased to 12.2% (8.7% in the previous month) and the index for unprocessed food products recorded a change of 3.4% (3.7% in July)," he added.
Fuels explain the acceleration of inflation to 3.3% in August, according to the INE. Reading, still provisional, points to a possible increase of 2.56% in income next year.
