Infantino defies FIFA vice president by going to youth event in Caribbean amid global soccer rift
Gianni Infantino attended an Under-14 soccer event in the Caribbean despite being asked not to by FIFA vice president Victor Montagliani amid controversy over Infantino's plan to sell future World Cup profits to private investors.
Infantino posted Instagram photos showing him meeting Dominican Republic political and soccer officials during the Caribbean Football Union youth tournament at Punta Cana resort.
Victor Montagliani, president of CONCACAF and a FIFA vice president, requested Infantino avoid the event to prevent media focus on FIFA's governance crisis rather than the youth competition.
Montagliani, along with other FIFA vice presidents, opposes Infantino's presidency, which has lasted 11 years.
Gianni Infantino challenged the request made by one of FIFA's vice presidents to stay away from a Sub-14 football event in the Caribbean and instead made an unusual public appearance in the midst of world rage for his failed plan to sell future World Cup profits to private investors.
