Mexico City Disinform ourselves. Indigenous and Afro-descendent communities in eastern Michoacán denounced that the Federal Electricity Commission is responsible for an environmental and health crisis that affects Ottoman and Mazahua peoples, who suffer from chronic kidney diseases due to the contamination of water and soil caused by the Los Azufres Geothermoelectric Power Plant, without an effective response from the Mexican State.
The Michoacán Supreme Indigenous Council reported that the Geothermal Centre dumps heavy metals and other pollutants into the water, causing kidney diseases in at least three municipalities.
