For nearly half a century, 60-year-old "Peepal Baba", has planted trees to reconstruct the extirpated vegetation cover in many parts of India and "to offer the planet a second chance".
"When I was young, I was planting shoots like a soldier," recalls Swami Prem Parivartan, whom everyone calls "Peepal Baba" ("the father of the trees"), by tasting land with wet straw at the foot of a young plant. Passionate about trees since childhood, he now leads one of India's oldest citizen reforestation movements, who claims to have already planted millions of them. For half a century now, "Peepal Baba" ("the father of the trees"), has been planting trees in India. A solitary initiative that has led to a large volunteer movement to rebuild the country's vegetation cover. The association he helped to found is said to have planted nearly 26 million trees in the country.
