Gondhal Gets Oscar Push with Special Paid Previews; Here’s Where It Will Screen
The Marathi psychological thriller will open special paid previews before its worldwide release, giving audiences an early look at India’s official Oscar submission.
The Marathi film Gondhal has been selected as India's Official Submission for the 99th Academy Awards, with paid previews scheduled across select cities starting October 10.
Director-Producer Santosh Davakhar said the team prepared for a year, calling the selection 'a great blessing' and noting it brings 'significant responsibility' to represent India before Oscars voters.
Produced by Diksha Davakhar under the banner of Davakhar Films, the film features actors Suresh Vishwakarma, Kailash Waghmare, and Madhavi Juvekar in key roles.
The Film Federation announced the selection on September 18, with 2027 Oscars nominations scheduled for January 21, 2027, and the ceremony set for March 14, 2027.
Set against the backdrop of a traditional rural Maharashtra ritual, the Marathi film explores complex human psychology as a cerebral psychological thriller rooted in cultural narrative.
