India's 'cockroach' movement to protest from Oct. 2 if poll chief does not quit by Saturday
The party cited alleged voter-roll irregularities and said 14 objections by two commissioners show the poll body acted without proper checks.
On Thursday, Cockroach Janta Party founder Abhijeet Dipke demanded Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar resign within 48 hours, threatening nationwide agitation and an indefinite sit-in in Delhi if he refuses.
Dipke's ultimatum followed an Indian Express investigation revealing Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi formally objected at least 14 times over 10 months to Special Intensive Revision decisions.
Congress MP Rahul Gandhi alleged with "100% certainty" that recent elections were "rigged," accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Kumar of being "deshdrohis" for destroying India's vote.
Opposition parties launched nationwide protests on Friday demanding Kumar's arrest and removal, while preparing a fresh impeachment motion for submission in both Houses of Parliament within the coming weeks.
The Election Commission maintains all decisions were unanimous and legal, yet Dipke argued opposition parties must stop participating in allegedly "rigged" elections to avoid creating an "illusion" of fairness.
