600mn Beneficiaries Covered Since 2018: PM Narendra Modi on 8 Yrs of Ayushman Bharat
The scheme has funded 13.25 crore hospital admissions worth Rs 2.03 lakh crore, officials said, as it expanded cashless cover for poor and middle-class families.
- On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked the 8th anniversary of Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, announcing more than 60 crore beneficiaries now access Rs 5 lakh in annual health cover.
- Launched on September 23, 2018, the initiative aimed to ensure every Indian has access to affordable healthcare, providing cashless hospitalisation for secondary and tertiary care.
- Union Health Minister Nadda reported more than 13 crore people have utilized treatment, with over 48.54 crore Ayushman cards created and Rs 2 lakh crore in hospitalisation costs covered across 39,000 hospitals.
- Nadda emphasized the initiative allows patients to receive timely treatment without the fear of financial hardship, protecting families from the burden of medical debt.
- Beyond the financial protection of AB-PMJAY, the program includes Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, which recorded over 500 crore visits, alongside the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission and the Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission.
