Prado Museum Debuts AI, London Gallery to Close, a DNA Breakthrough in Cave Art, and More: Morning Links for August 11, 2026
The digital work uses artificial intelligence and manual editing to show how changing light can alter color, shape and atmosphere in the paintings.
On Wednesday, August 12, 2026, The Spanish National Prado Museum launched 'The Prado in the light of the eclipse,' an AI-powered project simulating how solar eclipse lighting transforms iconic masterpieces.
Seeking to explore how light influences perception, the museum asks: 'How much of what we see in a work of Art depends on the light in which we view it?' This fundamental question drives the initiative.
Studio AMB Piensa produced the video using AI models to simulate light, shadows, and progressive darkening; technicians manually adjusted each sequence to preserve the original pictorial technique and character of the paintings.
Featured works include 'Las Meninas', 'La Vista' by Pedro Pablo Rubens and Jan Brueghel, Viejo, and 'El nacimiento del Sol y el triunfo de Baco' among eight paintings touched by the eclipse.
Reaffirming its commitment to innovation, The Prado views this project as cultural outreach designed to engage new audiences through accessible audiovisual format without sacrificing rigor or respect for original works.
