Kenya: Ruto Minister Hails End to Kenya's 'Misadventure' in Haiti After UN Vote
Nairobi -- Former Senior Economic Adviser to the President, Moses Kuria, has welcomed a UN mandate for a Gang Suppression Force (GSF) in Haiti, saying the move ends what he termed Kenya's "misadventure" in the Caribbean nation.
The multinational security support mission forces have never been able to fully carry out their mission: fewer than 1,000 of the 2,500 planned police officers, including a majority of Kenyans, have been deployed.
The UN Security Council has approved plans to send an international force to Haiti to help curb gang violence. The force, called the Gang Suppression Force (GSF), would consist of up to 5,550 soldiers and police officers and would have the authority to arrest gang members.
