IIT Delhi ranks 118 in QS rankings, up from 123
The institute climbed 5 places to 118th, with stronger employment, employer reputation and citation scores driving the gain, officials said.
On Wednesday, the Indian Institute of Technology-Delhi retained its place as India's highest-ranked university, reaching 118th position in the QS World University Rankings 2027.
India now features 52 universities in the rankings, a significant rise from 14 institutions a decade ago, establishing the nation as the fastest-growing G20 country by proportional increase in ranked universities.
IIT-Delhi secured 39th place globally for employer reputation, while IIT-Bombay performed exceptionally well in the same category, rising to 32nd in the rankings.
Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan welcomed the results, crediting the National Education Policy 2020 for India's strong performance and noting the policy targets a 50% Gross Enrolment Rate by 2050.
India's share of global research output grew to about 5.5% of Scopus-indexed papers, yet QS noted universities require 'more deliberate international positioning' to break into the global top 100.
