Police Watchdog Investigating West Kelowna Arrest
The civilian watchdog is seeking witnesses as it examines whether police actions were connected to the woman’s injuries after her arrest for mischief.
- The Independent Investigations Office began investigating an RCMP arrest in Westbank after a woman reported suffering injuries during police detention in early September.
- Officers responded to the 3700-block of Boucherie Road around 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 8 after reports a woman was allegedly "causing a disturbance" at a nearby business, resulting in her arrest for mischief.
- During an "interaction" between police and the woman, she suffered injuries that were later assessed and treated at a hospital after her release from custody.
- The IIO opened an investigation after the woman notified the agency on Sept. 13, working to determine whether police actions meet thresholds for serious harm under the Police Act.
