El-Rufai: Court Directs ICPC to Allow Ex-Kaduna Gov Access to Medical Treatment, Adjourns Bail Ruling

The court said the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission must escort El-Rufai to Abuja clinics and return him to custody after treatment.

  • On Wednesday, the Federal High Court, Kaduna, granted former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai permission to access dental and eye care in Abuja under strict ICPC supervision, per Honourable Justice Rilwan Aikawa's ruling.
  • Defence lawyer Oluwole Olaniyan SAN argued on Wednesday for a variation of bail conditions previously imposed on El-Rufai during the ongoing corruption trial. The ICPC opposed this fresh application, filing a counter-affidavit to challenge the request.
  • El-Rufai and co-defendant Joel Adoga face a 10-count charge before Judge Rilwan Aikawa for alleged money laundering and corruption under the Money Laundering Act, 2022. Both defendants have pleaded not guilty.
  • Separately, the State Security Service arraigned El-Rufai in Abuja on five amended counts of alleged national security breaches stemming from claims he intercepted a phone conversation involving National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu.
  • Following arguments from both legal teams on Wednesday, the court adjourned the matter until today, Thursday, May 7, 2026, for a ruling on the bail variation application. El-Rufai remains in custody pending the decision.
