- Shot in 1973 by Brian Duffy, photographer during a London studio session, the red-and-blue lightning bolt was Duffy's idea and painted by makeup artist Pierre La Roche, commissioned by Tony Defries, Bowie’s manager.
- Comparisons show prints are expected to sell for $340,000–$400,000, potentially beating Led Zeppelin's debut album artwork record of $325,000 , Bonhams said.
- Bonhams will present 'The Mona Lisa of Pop' in a free exhibition at Bonhams New Bond Street from Oct. 22–Nov. 5, featuring 35 archive items including the Hasselblad 500C camera, Bowie's stool, and inside centrefold artwork estimated �150,000 to �200,000.
- The image's cultural footprint includes Chris Duffy calling it 'the Mona Lisa of pop,' and the David Bowie Is exhibition attracting more than 312,000 visitors in London, with over two million overall.
