IAS Officer Mandeep Bhandari Named New CBSE Chairman Months After Re-Evaluation Row
The government approved the appointment after months of controversy over CBSE’s On-Screen Marking system, which drew complaints from students and scrutiny of procurement.
On Friday, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet appointed Senior IAS officer Mandeep K. Bhandari as Chairperson of the Central Board of Secondary Education , temporarily upgrading the post to Additional Secretary rank.
Bhandari's appointment follows widespread allegations of irregularities in the CBSE's On-Screen Marking system, which faced scrutiny over digital evaluation procurement and technical glitches earlier this year.
In June, the government transferred former chairperson Rahul Singh and secretary Himanshu Gupta, with Prashant Lokhande Sitaram holding additional charge of CBSE chairperson during the transition period.
Concurrent with Bhandari's appointment, the Appointments Committee approved multiple senior-level bureaucratic transfers Friday, including Vipin Kumar, former Chairman of the Airports Authority of India, as Additional Secretary in the Department of Rural Development.
Students will soon access 2027 Class 10 and 12 examination schedules via the official CBSE website, as the board prepares to release the new date sheets under Bhandari's leadership.
