Hundreds Show up to Judge New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani Look-Alike Contest
Nine participants competed for a $100 prize as police moved the Mamdani look-alike contest outside the park for lacking a permit.
On Sunday, hundreds gathered near New York City's Washington Square Park for a Mayor Zohran Mamdani look-alike contest sponsored by the social media app Sonder.
Mamdani, a democratic socialist who took office in January, has amassed a large following among younger residents, prompting nine participants to mirror his signature campaign-era suits and patterned ties.
The winner, Amadeo Fusca, delighted the crowd by wearing a New York Knicks jersey beneath his suit and took home a $100 prize, equivalent to 33 bus rides.
Police required attendees to leave Washington Square Park due to permit violations, forcing the group to relocate nearby where contestants answered questions about their favorite pizza to determine the winner.
This event follows a similar 2025 contest held in Brooklyn during Mamdani's mayoral campaign, and one participant referenced his 2019 rap video by arriving shirtless while wearing an apron.
