Huge Column of Smoke as 70 Firefighters Battle Blaze on Busy Road
Around 70 firefighters and 10 engines responded to a large fire near the Odeon cinema causing major traffic disruption in Beckenham, officials said.
- On Tuesday a building on High Street in Beckenham went up in flames at about 8am, with the roof of the Odeon cinema alight and thick black smoke visible for miles.

- Residents were told to keep windows and doors closed because of smoke while London buses 54, 227, 352, 354 and 367 were diverted and Beckenham town centre shut down amid disruption.
- By 10.30am the incident was under control, officials said, after the fire caused significant damage to the mixed-use building under refurbishment while Station Commander Tony Perks praised crews for limiting spread to adjoining buildings.
