How eggshells can protect spacecraft from space debris

AGI - Researchers at the University of Technology in Dalian, China, modeled the eggs to create a protective material for vehicles to be launched into space. Their results have been published in the Journal of Applied Physics. "Natural biological structures - says author Yuxin Wang - have evolved to demonstrate excellent energy absorption performance during long-term adaptations."
An aluminium material inspired by the geometry of the eggshells reduced almost 65% the speed of projectiles in tests against hypervelocities impacts, a result that could improve the shields of the ships in front of the growing space debris.
