How Did ‘Rick and Morty’ Season 8 End? What to Remember Before Season 9
Rick confronts his grief, Beth and Space Beth shift again, and Evil Morty’s escape leaves the multiverse in a more unstable state.
During Season 8, Rick C-137 decided to purge all memories of his late wife, Diane, from his mind, sending a sentient Memory Rick from "Rickternal Friend-shine" of the "Spotless Mort" into Beth's mind to hide.
Following the death of Rick Prime, Evil Morty successfully escaped the Central Finite Curve and stole the Omega Device schematics, becoming the dominant, free entity in the multiverse.
In "The CuRicksous Case" of "Bethjamin Button," both Beth and Space Beth became young again, while Summer matured into a 30-something tech expert after a 17-year Matrix-esque simulation by Rick.
Morty appears less tethered to Rick and his trauma by season's end, becoming more of his own person after reconnecting with his Gazorpian son in "Morty Daddy."
Adult Swim will return with another 10 episodes, with the Season 9 Premiere scheduled for Sunday, May 24, at 11/10c as the series prepares to send the fandom into further chaos.
