How AI is raising client expectations of financial advisors

AI tools are pushing 68% of advisors to automate notes and recaps, and clients now expect clear follow-up within 24 hours, according to Orion and Jump.

  • Financial advisors are integrating AI assistants into client planning meetings, though clients remain largely unaware of the technology sitting in on sessions. Clients are noticing the downstream benefits, particularly faster and more accurate meeting recaps.
  • Consumer and client expectations have risen across every industry, not just financial services, explains Matthew Koppelman, CFP, WMCP, co-founder of Precision Wealth Planners. Efficiency and personalization are now a nonnegotiable baseline across the profession.
  • A December 2024 Orion survey found 68% of advisors use AI for note-taking, proactive meeting prep and automated documentation. Sarah Cicero, CFP, financial advisor at StoneBridge Advisors, reported clients increasingly expect clear recaps within 24 hours.
  • Emily Rassam, CFP, partner at Archer Investment Management, noted that clients are becoming more conscious of digital record-keeping, with some requesting transcripts and asking advisors to verify notes. Rassam said she had never experienced this behavior previously.
  • Despite AI adoption, Danielle Darling, CDFA, founder of Darling Wealth Management, noted that most clients still prioritize having a trusted advisor who understands their goals and family dynamics. The rise of AI has reinforced clients' appreciation for personalized human guidance.
