In 1989, Princeton University senior Wendy Kopp proposed a teaching corps in her thesis, launching Teach for America, which has since trained more than 72,000 people to lead classrooms across the U.S.
Teach for America offers two-year, full-time teaching positions in schools nationwide, where recruits gain professional experience and benefits while applying their skills to diverse careers afterward.
Aneesh Sohoni, CEO of Teach for America, originally dreamed of becoming a lawyer but said, "Once I met students, I realized I wanted to do this the rest of my life."
First-Generation immigrant Alejandro Diaz-Granados persevered through the pandemic to reach students without computers, crediting teaching with providing him a sense of community and purpose.
Wendy Kopp, who led Teach for America for 24 years, now serves as CEO of Teach for All, continuing to expand educational leadership globally.
