House Ethics Committee investigating Rep. Jimmy Gomez for alleged sexual misconduct

- CNN reported in June that the panel opened this investigation after a New York Post story alleged Gomez was seen kissing an aide in 2023; the Committee later uncovered additional misconduct allegations during its review.
- Acknowledging "personal mistakes" outside his marriage, Gomez insisted his actions did not violate House ethics rules or laws, pledging to "cooperate with any Ethics Committee inquiry and provide it with whatever information it might need."
- Noting that "the mere fact that it is investigating these allegations, and publicly disclosing its review, does not itself indicate that any violation has occurred," the Ethics Committee said no further public comment will be made.
- Earlier this month, the panel recommended the full House censure GOP Rep. Chuck Edwards following a separate probe into sexual harassment allegations; Edwards dropped his reelection bid days later.
