FM Nirmala Sitharaman, while talking about the Hormuz Strait crisis and the disruption in Bab-el-Mandeb, warned that due to all this, a major food crisis is looming over the world.
The main problem is the break-up of conventional mineral fertilizer supply chains, which affected almost 40 per cent of the world ' s fertilizer trade in the Strait of Ormuz, and about 2.7 million tons lost the market due to difficulties in re-routing logistics routes.
The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) has warned that disruptions to shipments through the Strait of Hormuz threaten global food security. It noted that disruptions in the strait, through which approximately one-third of global fertilizer shipments pass, have reduced available fertilizer capacity by 40 percent, and predicted that grain prices could rise by up to 80 percent if the crisis continues. 🚆
