Hormel Foods Bets $1.06B on Brakebush to Expand Value-Added Chicken Business
The acquisition would add about $1.2 billion in annual sales and expand Hormel’s foodservice reach in value-added chicken.
On Wednesday, September 30, 2026, Hormel Foods Corporation announced a definitive agreement to acquire Brakebush Brothers, a family-owned value-added chicken processor, for approximately $1.055 billion.
Hormel aims to bolster its foodservice operations by acquiring Brakebush, which generated roughly $1.2 billion in net sales over the past 12 months and serves national and regional operators.
"Brakebush is a highly respected leader in value-added chicken," said Interim Chief Executive Officer Jeff Ettinger, noting the company's talented team and differentiated capabilities make it an excellent fit.
Expected to close during the first quarter of fiscal 2027, the transaction will be financed through existing cash reserves and new debt, with results reported in Hormel's Foodservice segment.
Expanding consumer demand for protein positions the 135-year-old Hormel for long-term growth, with an estimated 70% of Americans now wanting more protein in their diets compared to 59% four years ago.
