Symposium on Emergency Response and Aeromedical Services Debuts in Hong Kong
More than 230 policymakers and experts joined sessions, drills and demonstrations as Hong Kong sought deeper emergency-response and aeromedical cooperation.
Hong Kong's Government Flying Service hosted its inaugural three-day International Symposium on Emergency Response and Aeromedical Services from June 16 to 18, bringing together more than 230 policymakers, experts, and industry representatives.
Under Secretary for Security Michael Cheuk opened the symposium, emphasizing that emergency response challenges are evolving at an unprecedented pace due to climate change, necessitating proactive prevention and enhanced cross-regional collaboration.
Attendees from over 70 organizations spanning nations including Australia and China gathered to foster professional training and resource sharing, while Wang Lei, The Director General of the Rescue and Salvage Bureau of the Ministry of Transport , delivered a keynote on South China Sea air rescue.
The symposium concluded with an interdepartmental counter-terrorism drill involving the GFS, Hong Kong Police Force, and Hong Kong Fire Services Department, showcasing professional capabilities while participants signed memoranda of understanding to deepen international collaboration.
Establishing a transnational pool of professional expertise underscores Hong Kong's status as an aviation hub for emergency response in Asia, with Captain Eddie Liu, The Controller of the GFS, stating the agency "shoulders the responsibility of maintaining internal security of the HKSAR.
