Homeland Security officials announce 2,100 immigrant detentions in NY

- On Tuesday, Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin announced that ICE arrested more than 2,100 people living illegally across New York during the past 30 days as part of Operation Rotten Apple.
- The operation targeted individuals released despite ICE detainer requests, as Mullin claimed New York sanctuary politicians, including Mayor Zohran Mamdani, released more than 13,000 criminal defendants despite these requests.
- Arrests included alleged gang members, rapists, murderers, and child predators. Mullin singled out a Ukrainian national with murder convictions, an Indian national convicted of rape in Germany, and a Colombian national accused of child sexual assault.
- Mullin also criticized Gov. Kathy Hochul's decision to end agreements allowing local law enforcement agencies to work with ICE on Immigration enforcement, stating these individuals should not have been on the streets.
- The Department of Homeland Security will do everything to enforce Immigration laws, Mullin emphasized, noting that while Congress makes laws, ICE will continue efforts to remove criminal targets from the streets.
