Home Depot CEO to Take Temporary Medical Leave for a Few Months
Ann-Marie Campbell and Richard McPhail will lead operations and finance while the board chair role shifts during Decker’s leave.
On Wednesday, Home Depot CEO Ted Decker announced he is taking a "temporary medical leave of absence" expected to last a few months, prompting the board to appoint interim leadership.
Senior Executive Vice President Ann-Marie Campbell will oversee daily operations while CFO Richard McPhail manages financial and Pro business divisions; Lead Director Greg Brenneman will chair the board during the leave.
Lead Director Greg Brenneman stated "The Home Depot has the best management team in retail," adding that neither Campbell nor McPhail will receive additional pay for the expanded duties.
Following the announcement, Home Depot shares dropped 2.35% according to Barron's, while Lowe's stock declined 2.6%; the company releases fiscal second quarter earnings on Tuesday, August 18.
The interim executives have worked together for more than 20 years and were selected "in alignment with Decker's recommendation," though the company declined to disclose details about the CEO's medical condition.
