Inside Hayden Panettiere’s Troubling Final Months After a Life in the Spotlight
Neutrogena said it failed to support Panettiere after canceling her contract as she spoke publicly about postpartum depression.
Hayden Panettiere, the 36-year-old actress best known for "Heroes" and "Nashville," died Sunday in Greenville, South Carolina, after medics responded to a 911 call and pronounced her dead at 2:32 p.m.
Days after her death, Neutrogena publicly apologized Thursday for canceling her contract in 2015 after she began speaking openly about postpartum depression, acknowledging it had failed to support her during that difficult time.
Recalling her early career, Panettiere told People that at 15, team members offered her "happy pills" before red carpets "to make me peppy during interviews," revealing industry pressures she faced as a young performer.
The Drug Enforcement Administration joined the investigation Thursday, while partner Wladimir Klitschko stated the family is "going through a time of profound shock and grief" as authorities continue examining circumstances surrounding her death.
Panettiere's death follows other recent losses involving young performers and revives conversations about pressures faced by former child stars, whom she had previously described as the "Messy Generation" in a 2013 interview.
