Bali's Ngurah Rai International Airport will cease operations for 24 hours during Nyepi. The area, usually bustling with thousands of passengers, is now deserted. Only airport security personnel are visible. The airport will reopen on Friday (March 20th) at 6:00 a.m. WITA.

Once a year Bali stands still. During Nyepi holiday, locals and tourists are not allowed to leave the hotel for 24 hours – even the airport remains closed.

On March 19th it becomes quiet in Bali. In Hinduism this is the highest holiday, and it has consequences for travelers. What you should not do on that day.
