Hockey Canada Unveils Blueprint to Grow Game for Women and Girls

Hockey Canada targets over 170,000 female players by 2030 with 14 measures addressing staffing, ice access, and funding to increase participation and representation.

  • Hockey Canada unveiled 14 recommendations on Dec. 13, 2025, aiming to grow women and girls players to more than 170,000 by 2030 at Rogers Place, Edmonton.
  • Despite rising participation, Hockey Canada says female hockey registration reached 115,000 last season, yet women and girls represent less than 20 per cent of coaching, officiating and programming.
  • The blueprint titled Rise As One includes a salaried employee devoted to women and girls hockey in each provincial and territorial hockey association, equitable access to ice time and facilities, and new revenue from the 2027 women's world championship, Quebec City.
  • Over the next one to two years, Hockey Canada wants to accelerate leadership and coaching positions for women and raise the game's visibility among communities and partner organizations across Canada.
  • Backed by research and committee leaders, Hockey Canada issued a survey with over 6,000 respondents, and Jonathan Goldbloom said, `If we did nothing, we wouldn't be able to accommodate the growth`.
